About
Waipiro Marina is being designed to meet the growing demand for marine services and infrastructure in the upper-north island of NZ.
Northland Regional Council has identified this location as a suitable marina site, and its development is driven by a combination of increasing population, expanding tourism, access to the heart of the Bay of Islands, and the need for improved facilities in the wider region.
The proposed marina features include:
Over 200 marina berths for a range of pleasure craft
An all-tide boat ramp and trailer parking for use by the public
A fuel dock for recreational and commercial vessels
Retail and commercial spaces catering to marine and tourism needs
Potential services such as a grocery store, chandlery, Coastguard, maritime police, fisheries, hospitality, and tourism charters
Location
Located in Waipiro Bay, within approximately 9 hectares of coastal marine area, the marina will provide a safe and modern alternative to traditional swing moorings. Evidence of other well-designed marinas have led to environmental improvements, such as the monitoring and removal of invasive marine species, reducing unsafe beach launching, and supporting the recovery of local bird and shellfish life.
Sustainability remains a priority, with a focus on water quality monitoring, marine ecosystem protection, and responsible construction practices.
