Waipiro Marina Fast Track Application – Project Update

We are pleased to share an update regarding the proposed Waipiro Marina project.

In February 2025, Hopper Developments and Azuma Property submitted a Referral Application under the Fast-Track Approvals Act 2024 for the proposed Waipiro Marina. We have recently been informed that our application for referral has been successfully accepted. This means the proposal will now advance through a streamlined approvals pathway, as an alternative to the traditional Resource Management Act (RMA) process.

It is important to clarify that this decision is not a final approval of the project. Rather, it permits the project to progress under the Fast Track process, enabling a comprehensive yet expedited review. For further details, please view the official referral decision provided here.

We acknowledge and appreciate that community perspectives on the marina project are diverse, and we remain sensitive to all feedback. We continue to proactively engage with local stakeholders, iwi, and hapū groups to discuss concerns, opportunities, and collaborative solutions. We strongly believe that a partnership approach will ensure the project delivers broad community benefits while addressing and mitigating any potential impacts.
